For people in the home improvement repair industry, customers are asking all the time for estimates on home repair, plumbings, building a pool or even lawn care services. But some people don’t know how to work up an estimate; they don’t know where to start. They have software for your computer on estimating.
It gives you templates and as you read the fields and fill them in the software then projects an estimate. These programs will even work with homeowners, if they are doing do it yourself improvements they will get an idea of what it will cost. The software says it can give you an accurate estimate. But an estimate is a rough guess and a perfect estimate doesn’t exist.
It may give you an estimate but it will be a ballpark figure not a completely accurate. No computer can know how much materials will cost unless they are hooked up to certain stores that carry what you are looking for. If there were software like that everyone would want it. Prices change all the time and you never know when.
Estimating software is good for just that estimating but you can’t take that price as the gospel. You could just go to the store, write down the prices yourself on a piece of paper and just do it manually. Some people may like the software but it may turn out to be a little off the mark.
